Marquette, Michigan

In the Women's Center Facility

Membership:

We are a State of Michigan nonprofit organization serving the Marquette and surrounding communities.  Our mission is to improve community safety and wellness, while also preserving traditional cultural heritage, by assisting groups that teach self-defense and other traditional physical fitness activities.

We provide training facilities, shared equipment, and shared training opportunities to traditional martial arts groups, clubs, and styles, as well as to other traditional physical arts, both internal and external.  In addition to our martial arts group members, we have provided our services to many other members including instructors of yoga, tumbling, traditional folk dancing, Chinese medicine, Qigong, and meditation.

If you are an instructor of a physical and/or traditional art, and need a facility, we invite you to join us!

Our current rates are $15 per hour for either Studio A or Studio B.

Each Northern Lights Member also pays an individual annual (yearly) membership fee upon joining, and signs a membership form and waiver.  This fee is shared by all members including instructors as well as students, and it goes mostly towards our insurance and other operating expenses such as cleaning and office supplies, etc.  This is due again each January.

$35 per year for kids under 14

$50 per person 14 and up.

Most of our open time slots are currently during daytime hours and on weekends.  Please Check the Current Schedule for availability, and email the Facility Director, Tim DeMarte, for questions or scheduling: tdemarte@gmail.com

Saturday time slots are available, but may by default be reserved by other groups for seminars and tests. This only happens a few times per year.  All Saturday classes are subject to being rescheduled for these events; time can be moved or banked in these cases.

New groups/instructors that join us will be given a facility orientation and a packet of instructions explaining the facility rules and shared responsibilities for respecting the space and keeping it clean and safe for everyone.
